- The Tramping Camp Of The 1st Dundee Troop Boy Scouts -
July 1911
My grandfather, James Shaw, was one of the first scoutmasters. This is an
account written and illustrated by two lads of his troop. It tells of their trek
of 109 miles starting and finishing from Dundee and passing through the
Perthshire Highlands.
- Tale of Two Tapes
A wee bit of humour. I was challenged to create a comic strip using
objects found in an office. This was triggered by the arrival of a new type of
sticky tape in the office. CAUTION: contains puns.
- WebTree
From time to time I do some research on the family tree and pass on those
findings to my family. It is easy to forget who was told what so as an
experiment I have put some notes in a blog.
- James Shaw (Tertius)
My father, James Shaw, served with the RAF in Canada and 140
Squadron in Europe during WWII as an engine fitter. He was able to pursue his interest
in things mechanical which continued throughout his career with the Rover
Company as a vehicle development and project engineer.
- Recording Autodialler
At the end of 1971, while at the University of Nottingham, I was looking for a project that combined my interest
in digital electronics and telephony. The recording autodialler was the
result. Nowadays it all comes built into the telephone.
- Cell Controller
As part of my MSc thesis at the University of Strathclyde I converted
a small conveyor line to computer control. The idea was that eventually it
would work in conjunction with a Rediffusion Reflex Robot.
- Shaw Elders
This is a trial of putting my family tree on the web. Are you part of
it? Only if you were born before 1917!
- Rare Rovers - The Rover P7s
Some notes on alternative engine prototypes based on the Rover 2000
(P6) by someone who was there, Rex Marvin..
- John Tamsin's Bairns by Robert Couston
I'm not one for poetry but somehow the message comes over better with
a wee bit o' the Scots tongue. I believe Robert Couston was grocer and
amateur poet from Mussleburgh circa 1900.
